WSOC | Grizzlies Travel to Utah for Conference Play

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State women's soccer team will head to Utah to take on Dixie State University and Westminster College this weekend. Last week, the Grizzlies dropped two games to Metro State University and University of Colorado Colorado Springs. The Grizzlies go into this weekend 2-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

During their matchup with Metro State, the Grizzlies struggled to push the ball offensively. The Grizzlies were outshot 32-6 with 18 shots on goal for the Roadrunners and 3 on goal for the Grizzlies. Corri Zaiger tallied 14 saves on the day for the Grizzlies. Breana Flores scored the lone goal for the Grizzlies in a 4-1 loss.

The Grizzlies matchup with the #24 ranked UCCS was a close thriller. With wind totaling over 20 MPH and heavy showers, both teams had their moments shooting the ball. After a scoreless first half, the Mountain Lions capitalized on a free kick to take the one goal lead. Soon after, Breana Flores tied the game at 1-all with a deflected shot off the goalie. The Mountain Lions scored two more goals late in the game to seal the win.

The Grizzlies offense currently ranks in the top five in goals, assists, and shots per game. Corri Zaiger leads the conference in saves with 84 (7.64/Game) and Diana Cerillo is third in the conference in goals with five on the season.

Scouting the Trailblazers
Dixie State is currently on a three game skid losing two last week to UCCS and CCU. During conference play, the Trailblazers are 2-5 and 6-5 overall. The Trailblazers have shut out their opponents six times this season in all six of their victories. Dixie State's defense is second in the RMAC and is ranked 36th nationally in GAA at 0.636. The meeting between the Grizzlies and Trailblazers is only the second meeting all time for these teams. Their last meeting came back in 2006 with the Trailblazers shutting out the Grizzlies, 3-0. Whitley Johns leads the Trailblazer offense with four goals. The Trailblazers goalkeepers include Felicity Tarr and Nicole Rahman who have split time this season. The duo have six combined shutouts and have only allowed 7 goals all season. The game will be played on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in St. George, Utah.

Scouting the Griffins
The Griffins find themselves fourth in the RMAC standings. The Griffins are 5-2 in conference play and 8-3 overall. Last week's games featured a 1-0 loss to UCCS and a 1-0 victory over CCU. Emma Heyn and Aimee Kurfurst both have totaled four goals and 40 combined shots between the two of them. Hillary Weixler has played every minute for the Griffins in net this season and has limited her opponents to 0.87 goals per game. The Griffins are right outside the top five in the conference for shots, goals, and assists. The Grizzlies and Griffins will play on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. in Salt Lake City, Utah.
