ALAMOSA, Colo. – In what was a chilly afternoon in the San Luis Valley, stout defenses took the field in a tightly contested, 1-0 match that ultimately ended in another Adams State defeat. The loss to conference foe UCCS drops the Grizzlies to 0-8-2 in RMAC play and 0-12-2 overall.
The first half seemed as though it would end in a 0-0 tie going into half, with both defenses and goaltenders playing lights out. However, a penalty was called on the Grizzlies with 25 seconds to play in the first half, and the Cougars would be awarded a penalty kick. Mario Mandel would cash in for UCCS to put them up 1-0 going into the half, and this would be enough for a Cougar victory in the end.
Shawn McKeeken was given the start over
Jacob Faircloth at goaltender in what was his first start since week two of the season. His performance kept the Grizzlies in the game as he would register six saves, letting in just the one goal off of a penalty kick. All afternoon he gave the Grizzlies life, but in the end, the offense could not pull through, and were again shut out for the seventh straight contest.
Once again, Coach
Stan Rodrigues will have a decision as to who will start at Keeper for the remainder of the season with McKeeken's solid play this afternoon. They go back on the road next weekend as they travel to Utah to face off against Westminster on Friday, and Dixie State on Sunday.
