PUEBLO, Colo. – After what has been a long season to endure in 2018, the Adams State Grizzlies Men's Soccer team secured their first win of the year in an overtime thriller Thursday night in Pueblo. The game was the final away game for the Grizzlies in the 2018.
After what looked as though it would be scoreless half for both teams, the Grizzlies put together a last-minute offensive surge in the final ten seconds of the period when
Israel Varela assisted
Benji Rogers from the corner to put the Grizzlies up 1-0 going into the half. The goal was Rogers' third goal of the season, and he has scored in consecutive games.
Adams State goalkeeper
Jacob Faircloth was sensational in the game, recording 12 individual saves. The only goal he surrendered in the match came midway through the second half when Thunderwolf Lewis Chambers assisted teammate Santiago Tinta for his fourth goal of the season, which nodded the score at one just past the 76-minute mark.
As the final 14 minutes of regulation would see both teams go scoreless, the match would be headed for overtime. The last contest between these two teams ended in a 1-1 tie after extra-time back on September 14
th.
Less than a minute and a half into the overtime period,
George Valenzuela assisted Rogers on the sudden death goal that would give Adams State the victory, 2-1. The goal from Rogers wa shis second of the night and fourth of the season as he sealed the win for the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies hope to take this momentum into the senior game on Saturday as they prepare to take on Colorado Mesa in what will be seniors
