Late Comeback Propels Grizzlies Over Cowgirls

LAS VEGAS, NM - The Adams State Volleyball team defeats New Mexico Highlands in five sets Friday night. The Grizzlies came back to win the final three sets after dropping the first two.

 

Adams State completed the comeback in the fifth and final set. Both teams traded points till the teams were even at 13. The Grizzlies showed poise taking the last two points to defeat the Cowgirls, 15-13.

 

Adams State began the comeback by defeating New Mexico Highlands in a decisive set three victory. The Grizzlies got off to a quick lead and never looked back. Adams State went on to defeat New Mexico Highlands 25-13.

 

The Grizzlies continued to fire on all cylinders in the fourth set. Adams State got off to an early 11-5 lead over New Mexico Highlands. The Grizzlies pushed the lead by as many as eight. The Grizzlies defeated New Mexico Highlands 25-21 in set four.

 

Adams State began the night dropping set one to New Mexico Highlands. The Grizzlies got off to a rusty start to begin the set. New Mexico Highlands defeated Adams State, 25-22 in set one.

 

Adams State continued to struggle in set two. The Grizzlies fell down 19-12 early on but would mount a comeback. Adams State got within one point of New Mexico Highlands, 22-21. However, the Grizzlies could take the lead, falling 25-22.

Shannon Mulkey led the team in kills with 22, while Julianna Zamora and Hannah Goddard combined for 30 kills for the night. Rachael Ringler was the team's leader in assists with 59.

 

Adams State will be back on the road tomorrow to take on CSU-Pueblo at 7 p.m.
