Grizzlies Fall Short at Home Against Yellow Jackets

ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Adams State Men's Basketball team dropped it's second conference game of the season against Black Hills State Saturday night. The loss dropped the Grizzlies down to a 2-2 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 

The Grizzlies struggled to score the first 10 minutes of the first half. Adams State quickly fell down by 11 points to the Yellow Jackets, 21-10. The Grizzlies shortened the deficit to just six with just over four minutes remaining in the first half.

 

The Yellow Jackets quickly increased the lead back up to 16 after a 10-0 run. The Grizzlies went into halftime trailing, 40-25 to the Black Hills State. Adams State finished the half shooting 34% from the field.

 

The Grizzlies came out of halftime sinking shot after shot from the field. The Grizzlies quickly cut a 15 point halftime lead to just six in the first five minutes of the second half. The Yellow Jackets lead was now 49-43 over the Grizzlies.

 

Black Hills State wouldn't allow the Grizzlies to cut the lead down any further. An 21-11 run by the Yellow Jackets increased their lead back up to 16 points with a little under 10 minutes remaining. The Grizzlies trailed by as many as 23 points in the game before falling to Black Hills State, 85-69.

 

Adams State finished the game shooting 42% from the field on 28 made baskets. The Grizzlies led in points off turnovers, 15-9 over Black Hills State. The Grizzlies finished with 10 steals and four blocks for the game.

 

Adams State had three players score in double figures for the game. John Dewey led the Grizzlies with 14 points and six assists. Davere Creighton posted a double-double scoring 10 points while, grabbing 11 rebounds. RJ Brown finished with 11 points on 5 of 7 shooting from the field.

 

Black Hills State shot 56% from the field, while shooting 50% from behind the arc. The Yellow Jackets brought down 39 boards, helping to lead to 38 points in the paint. The Yellow Jackets struggled with turnovers, turning the ball over 13 times to just six by Adams State.

 

Stefan Desnica led all scorers for Black Hills State with 20 points, while managing to grab eight boards. Tyler Oliver nearly posted a triple-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Connor O'Hearn contributed 14 points and four assists from the off the bench for the Yellow Jackets.

 

The Grizzlies continue the weekend at home with a game against South Dakota School of Mines Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
