MBB| Grizzlies Return Home For Final Two Games After Defeating CCU 91-86 Tonight

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The Adams State University men's basketball team (15-11, 13-7 RMAC) have now reached a level of success that it has not seen since the 2014-15 season. 15 wins is the most ever in the Russ Caton era of Grizzly basketball. Tonight's 91-86 win over Colorado Christian (4-21, 3-16 RMAC) leaves the team in good standing as they play out the final two regular season games at home.

Shane Johnson hit a layup to open the game after 14 seconds but the Cougars would keep it close for a majority of the first half. Later in the half, a 20-10 run would give the Grizzlies an eight point lead. Jarrett Givens hit a three at the end of the half that gave ASU a 45-40 halftime advantage.

After an early closely contested second half, a 23-8 run gave Adams State its largest lead of the game at 16 with only 7:44 remaining. Though the Cougars went on to cut the deficit to three late in the game, the Grizzlies went on to win by five and get their 15th win of the year.

The Grizzlies had a great team effort tonight with five players scoring double digits and racking up 15 team assists. Brandon Sly was most impressive in a double-double performance with 18 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds. Shane Johnson would also add 18 points and a pair of rebounds. The home team was equally impressive with five of their own hitting double digits in scoring. Isaiah Hanson led either team with 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds.

The Grizzlies close out the regular season at home against No. 14 Fort Lewis next Tuesday, and against Westminster next Thursday. Both games will begin at 7:30PM.
