MBB| Adams State Knocks Off The Number One Team In The RMAC

ALAMOSA- The Adams State University men's basketball team (16-11, 14-7 RMAC) made a statement tonight in front of a sellout crowd. The No. 21 nationally ranked Fort Lewis College (21-5, 17-4 RMAC) did not intimidate the Grizzlies for a second and it showed as ASU went on to win 107-93.

Rasmus Bach opened the game with a layup in the early minutes to give the Skyhawks a 2-0 lead; this would be their largest of the game. From that point, Adams State would go on a 21-6 run to take a commanding 21-8 lead. The Skyhawks would not go away however, putting together a 12-0 run to take a one point lead. The Grizzlies would strike back to take a 12 point halftime advantage.

The second half was a Grizzly showcase as the team led by as many as 25 at one point. The highlight of the night came with only four minutes remaining. As the ball was going out of bounds, Frederick Jackson dove out slinging it back in while facing the opposite direction. It landed at the feet of Shane Johnson who, with only one second remaining on the shot clock, had to heave it from halfcourt. The ball went in and the loudest reaction Plachy Hall has heard this season followed.

Adams State owned the offensive paint, getting 66 points down low. A lot of those also came at the heels of 22 fast break points. Fort Lewis relied more on getting to the free throw line. The Skyhawks went 30-37 from the charity stripe. Though five Grizzlies reached double-digits in scoring, it was Shane Johnson who had a career night. Johnson dropped a 2017-18 ASU single game high and personal career high 30 points to go along with four assists and four rebounds. Brandon Sly put up another double-double with 20 points and 10 assists. This is Sly's sixth double-double on the season. Rasmus Bach led FLC with 27 points while Marquel Beasley added another 23.

The Grizzlies close out the regular season at home against Westminster on Thursday. Tipoff is set to begin at 7:30PM.
