ALAMOSA – Adams State University women's lacrosse team fell to the No.11-ranked Regis University this Saturday for senior day. The team showed a promising second half, but the early 10-0 lead was too much to overcome, falling 16-5. Adams will finish the season on the road this weekend at Colorado Mesa Friday at 7 p.m. then at Westminster College on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Regis jumped out to a quick lead, scoring 10 unanswered through the first 23 minutes of play. Shortly after
Cera Cyester found the back of the net in the 24
th minute to put the Grizzlies on the board, followed shortly by
Savannah Penland to bring it within eight in the first half.
The second half kicked off with Cyester finding
Kendell Baylor for the score, then
Jessica Hammer scored her first of the day to make the score 12-4. Hammer would find the net again in the 22
nd minute of the second half to bring the Grizzlies to their total score of five.
Despite being out worked in shots, the Grizzlies scored on half of their 10 shot attempts, only one of which was wide of the goal.
Alexis Wellong held her own in net with 11 saves compared the four for Regis.
The largest success came from draw controls, where Adams had 11 to Regis' 12. The Grizzlies were aggressive on the control, taking the early lead in the category. The team was also 14-for-25 on clears throughout the matchup.
