VB | Grizzlies Split in Day One Action in Lady Buff Classic

CANYON, TX – The Adams State women's volleyball team split in its first day of action in the Lady Buff Classic this Friday. Adams State earned its first win of the season against Eastern New Mexico University after falling to host team, West Texas A&M.

Adams State earned its first win of the season after defeating Eastern New Mexico University in the fifth and final set Friday evening. The Grizzlies earned the upper hand on the Greyhounds by taking the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-19. Eastern New Mexico would route back to defeat Adams State in sets three and four to force a deciding fifth set. The Grizzlies took an early lead over the Greyhounds, seven to four. A resilient Eastern New Mexico team would fight back to take the lead one last time, eight to seven. Adams State would go on to reclaim the lead and hold on for the 15-11 victory.

Adams State began the tournament with a nail-biting first set against West Texas A&M. It looked as if the Lady Buffs were going to run away with the first set after getting off to a commanding 17-11 lead. A resilient Grizzlies team would not surrender, inching their way back to take the lead, 25-24. Adams State and West Texas would continue to go back-and-forth with the lead, until the Lady Buffs closed out the Grizzlies for the 35-33 win. A deflated Grizzlies team would surrender the next two sets to the Lady Buffs claiming their first loss of the season.

Hannah Goddard led the Grizzlies with 23 kills for the day. Shannon Mulkey and Julianna Zamora went on to finish the day with 16 kills each. Rachel Ringler ended her day with 70 assists to lead the team. Mackenzie Swanson earned a team-high in digs with 35.
