VB | Grizzlies Finish Lady Buff Classic on High Note

CANYON, TX – The Adams State women's volleyball team wrapped up the Lady Buff Classic with a come-from-behind win against Emporia State University Saturday evening. The win brought the Grizzlies record to an even 2-2 to kick off the season.
                         
After dropping the first two sets against Emporia State University, Adams State would wheel off three straight set victories to earn its second win of the season. The Grizzlies displayed their dominance in the fifth set by defeating the Hornets, 15-8. Hannah Goddard led both teams with 19 kills. Rachael Ringler showed out tallying 60 assists in the match. Mackenzie Swanson racked up an impressive 15 digs throughout the five sets.
 
Adams State began the day with a set one win against the 10th ranked Rockhurst Hawks. The set came down to the wire with the Grizzlies stealing the win, 25-22. Adams State would fall short of the upset, dropping the next three sets to Rockhurst University. The Grizzlies were outmatched in team kills, 56-41. Hannah Goddard was the only Adams State player to earn at least 10 kills.

Goddard's play over the weekend earned her All-Tournament Team honors for the BritKare Lady Buff Classic. The sophomore started all four matches over the two day span for the Grizzlies. She totaled 52 kills in four matches averaging 3.06 kills a set and put up double-digit kills in every match. Her season-high came in the finale against Emporia State with 19. Defensively, Goddard also put up six assisted blocks and tallied 10 digs over the weekend.

Also making the All-Tournament Team for the Grizzlies was Ringler. The redshirt junior started all four matches at setter and was reliable the whole weekend. She totaled 163 assists in two days with a season-high of 60 in the final game against Emporia State. She helped out on the defensive end as well putting up 27 digs in four matches.
 
The Lady Buff Classic shed light on a resilient Adams State team. The Grizzlies proved themselves to be a team to keep an eye out for this season. The team returns to the court to compete in the Dixie State/Crystal Inn Classic next weekend in St. George, Utah.
