VB | Grizzlies Fall Short in Five-Set Thriller

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Adams State volleyball team fell short to University of Colorado-Colorado Springs in a five-set thriller Thursday evening. The Grizzlies record drops to 2-3 following the loss to the Mountain Lions.
 
The match came down to the fifth set where the Grizzlies came up just short of their third win of the season. The Grizzlies took the early 2-0 lead to start the set but couldn't hold on. UCCS would take the lead after five unanswered points and never look back. The Grizzlies would eventually lose their third game of the season, 15-11.
 
Both teams would alternate wins throughout the match. Following a loss in the first set, the Grizzlies would come out on top in a thrilling second set, 30-28. Adams State would go on to score three consecutive points after trailing 28-27. Hannah Goddard led the Grizzlies with six kills in the set. Grecia Diaz Martinez contributed to the Grizzly win by adding five kills herself.
 
The Grizzlies second win came in the fourth set, 25-22. The set featured four lead changes with the Grizzlies ultimately outlasting the Mountain Lions. A kill by Shannon Mulkey sealed the win for the Grizzlies. Rachael Ringler would go on to finish the day with a team-high 50 assists. Julianna Zamora and Mackenzie Swanson would combine to contribute 36 digs throughout the five sets.
