VB | Grizzlies Fall Short to Cougars in Tightly Contested Match

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Adams State Volleyball team closes out its weekend on the road with a five-set loss to University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Saturday evening.

Set one began with a back-and-forth pace between Adams State and University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. It was a set where neither team could pull away from the other. That is until the Cougars wheeled off seven straight points to finish the Grizzlies, 25-18.

Set two displayed a dominant performance by University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. The Cougars took the early lead in the set and kept on pushing it. The Grizzlies just could not find a rhythm as they went on to fall to the Cougars, 25-10.

An entirely different Adams State team came out for set. The Grizzlies led wire-to-wire after scoring the first three points of the set. Adams State led by as many as nine points in the set. The Grizzlies would go on to take the set over the Cougars, 25-18.

Adams State continued its display of excellence in the fourth set. The Grizzlies fell down to the Cougars 19-17 after leading the first part of the set. Adams State stayed poised as the team went on to outscore University of Colorado-Colorado Springs eight-to-one to take the victory in set four.

The Grizzlies found themselves in a hole early on in the fifth and final set against the Cougars. Adams State would make a comeback to tie the set at seven. The Cougars refused to allow a Grizzly comeback answering every Adams State point with one of their own. Adams State would go on to lose the fifth set, 15-12.

With the loss Adams State drops to 4-8 with a 1-3 record in the RMAC. Julianna Zamora led the Grizzlies in kills with nine, while Hannah Goddard and Shannon Mulkey each had a respectable eight kills. Rachael Ringler led the Grizzlies once again in assists, finishing with 37 for the night.
