SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Adams State University Volleyball team defeated Westminster College Friday evening. It took just four sets for the Grizzlies to take the match, 3-1.

The night got underway with the Grizzlies taking an early 5-1 lead in set one. Adams State would lead the entire set, coasting to a 25-20 victory. The Grizzlies were fired up recording 20 kills in the set.

Set two had a similar beginning as set one with the Grizzlies leading the Griffins early on. However, the set would see a different ending with the Griffins taking the set. Adams State was one point shy of victory when Westminster mounted three consecutive points for the 26-24 victory.

Adams State and Westminster came out even at the start of the third set. It looked like it was going to be another down-to-the-wire set with the teams tied at eight. That is until the Grizzlies rallied off seven consecutive points to blow the set up. Adams State continued its dominance over Westminster to take the set victory, 25-12.

The fourth and final set was a set of runs. The score was tied at seven when the Grizzlies made the first run to lead the Griffins, 16-11. Westminster would counter with a seven-to-one run to take the lead back, 18-17. The teams would go on to trade points with one another until they were tied at 24. Adams State would seize the 26-24 victory after two attack errors on Westminster.

Hannah Goddard led the team in kills at 16 with Julianna Zamora right behind her with 14. Rachael Ringler led the Grizzlies with 50 assists for the match.

Adams State now looks towards its match against the No. 2 ranked Dixie State University Saturday evening at 3 p.m. in St. George, Utah.
