ST. GEORGE, UT - The Adams State Volleyball team came up short against Dixie State Saturday evening. The Grizzlies were routed by the Trailblazers, 3-0.
Dixie State took the early lead in set one, scoring the first five points. Adams State would try to make a comeback but Dixie State proved to be too much. Adams State would go on to lose the first set, 25-12.
The Grizzlies fell down early to the Trailblazers in set two, 14-5. However, Adams State would continue to fight back. The Grizzlies cut the lead down to just four multiple times throughout the set but just could not get any closer. Dixie State went on to win set two, 25-19.
Adams State battled Dixie State early on in set three. The score was tied at six and it looked as if it was anyone's set. That is until the Trailblazers rallied off nine consecutive points to obtain a 15-6 lead over the Grizzlies. Adams State would try to fight back but to no avail. The Trailblazers completed the sweep, defeating the Grizzlies 25-14.
Adams State had a combined 31 kills through the match. Errors hindered the Grizzlies throughout the three sets, accumulating 17 to just six from the Trailblazers. Hannah Goddard was the team-leader in kills at 10. Rachael Ringler finished the night with a team-high 28 assists.
Adams State is back home in Plachy Hall next weekend to face Colorado State University-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands.
