MSOC | Grizzlies Contend With Orediggers in Home Contest

ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Adams State Men's Soccer team had a tall task in from of them Sunday afternoon as they hosted RMAC leading Colorado School of Mines at the ASU Soccer Field. The Orediggers managed just one goal as the Grizzlies battled all 90 minutes, but it was all they needed to secure 1-0 road win. With the loss, Adams State is now 0-6-2 overall and 0-2-2 in conference play.

Mines scored the game's only goal in the 11th minute when Ben Overholt played a quick pass from the middle by Talon Stanley. Overholt got inside the box on the left side and hit the back of the net from two yards out to give the Orediggers a 1-0 advantage.

Defensively, Mines held the Grizzlies to to just one shot in the first 45 minutes. Benji Rogers had the lone shot for Adams State on an attempt that sailed high from the left wing. Despite, giving up the one goal early, the Grizzlies held in check the rest of the afternoon defensively.

Going into the break, Mines had eight shots with three coming on goal. Both teams had a fairly clean sheet in the first 45 minutes of action with just one foul apiece.

The second frame continued to be a back-and-forth defensive battle as neither team allowed a goal and combined for just two shots on goals. Offensively, Mines continued to pressure the Grizzlies defense taking another eight shots in the period, but only one came on goal.

The Grizzlies only shot on goal for the day came from Dylan Udero in the 58th minute. He played a hard ball from the left side from 25 yards out that was headed for the upper right corner of the net, but Mines goalkeeper Dylan Johnson timed it in just right to punch the ball away and prevent the Grizzlies from tying the match.

Despite not earning the win or tie, Adams State's defense held a Mines offense that is averaging just under three goals per contest to just one. For the game, Udero led the Grizzlies with two shots overall and a shot on goal. Goalkeeper Jacob Faircloth (0-3-2) played all 90 minutes and had three saves on the day.

Overholt had two points on his one goal scored for Mines, while John Haist led the way with a game-high eight shots. Stanley picked up the assist for one point. In net, Johnson (7-1-0) had just one save.

Adams State will hit the road for its next four matches as RMAC play continues. The Grizzlies get their road trip started at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Friday, Sept. 28. Kickoff against the Mountain Lions is set for 6 p.m.
