ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies look to avenge their loss to rival Fort Lewis last weekend, with a bounce back win versus another RMAC opponent, this time facing off against the Chadron State Eagles. A win would put the Grizzlies at 4-2, further moving them up the RMAC standings. They hope to regenerate their offense that was held to just 201 total yards last weekend against Fort Lewis.
If there was a highlight last weekend, it was the Adams State defense, who kept the Grizzlies in the game despite a poor offensive showing. They forced a safety in the second half that provided a spark when the team desperately needed it, when
Alani Pututau sacked quarterback Erik Ornduff in the end zone. Pututau finished the game with one and a half sacks, and leads the conference in both sacks and tackles for loss even after missing two games early in the year.
Offensive super star wide receiver
Tariq Bitson was neutralized for the first time all season last week. The Skyhawks keyed in on him all game long, and the Grizzlies were unable to make up his production with their other playmakers. He was held to four receptions for 40 yards on the day, but still leads the Conference in receptions per game, yards per game, touchdowns, and is second in all-purpose yards. He looks to have a bounce back game against a Chadron defense that has not held any of their five opponents under thirty points thus far.
With Bitson covered for the majority of the game, receiver
Ziere Banner stepped up to try and make plays to keep the Grizzlies in the ball game. He finished his day with four receptions for 61 yards, and scored the Grizzlies lone touchdown. The combination of him and Bitson could be lethal this week against the Eagles defense who struggles to stop the pass. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies last week, they were also unable to run the football, totaling 56 yards on the ground for the entire game. This could also be a breakout game for their backfield tandem of Duson Sroles and
Jamarcus Federick.
The game against Chadron State kicks off this Saturday afternoon at noon from Elliott Field at Don Beebe Stadium in Chadron, NE. Live stream, radio broadcast, and live stats will be available through the website at ASUGrizzlies.com.
