Adams State Pulls Out a Big Win in New Mexico

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Adams State Women's Volleyball team took down the Cowgirls of New Mexico Highlands tonight, 3-0. The Grizzlies came out on top with 25-18, 27-25, and 25-20 set wins. The Grizzlies now move to 6-10 overall and 3-4 RMAC.
 
Already moving in to the weekend with momentum, the Grizzlies came out strong in their first set. After being tied four times early on, Adams State pulled away with a seven-point lead, 14-7. The Grizzlies kept their lead throughout the rest of the set, holding their biggest lead at eight. Adams State finished the first set 25-18.
 
The Cowgirls came out fired up for set two going on an early 7-1 run. After going back and forth for points, Adams State began their comeback scoring four straight, with Hannah Goddard behind the service line. The Grizzlies continued plugging away at the Cowgirls with big kills from Alexandra MacAskill, Riley Ogelvie, and Shannon Mulkey. MacAskill had the teams second service ace of the set to tie it up at 15. The score again went back and forth with great rallies from the two teams. With the score tied at 24, New Mexico Highlands score once more, then the Grizzlies took over to score the final three points of the set. Adams State came out 27-25.
 
Adams State came out very strong in the third and final set. The Grizzlies went on a 7-1 run and maintained the lead throughout the remainder of the match. The Cowgirls came close out with a lot of fight, coming back and nearly tying the score multiple times, but Adams State persevered and closed out the match 25-20.
 
Ogelvie and MacAskill were large influencers on the Grizzly attack, each racking up 12 kills. Mulkey was also a big leader for Adams State, contributing 6 kills and led the team with 5 blocks. Assisting within the attack were Bailey Schlosser and Maya Waddington. Schlosser racked up 24 assists, and Waddington added 11. Hannah Goddard and Mackenzie Swanson led the Grizzlies with 14 and 13 digs. Swanson also had 3 service aces on the night.
 
Adams State will continue their road trip tomorrow, Saturday Oct. 12, as they head to Pueblo, Colo. to take on the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo. Service is set to start at 5 p.m.
