Grizzlies Pull Out a Nail-Biting Win in Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. – Adams State Women's Volleyball closes their weekend with another conference win, defeating CSU-Pueblo 3-1 tonight. The Grizzlies played in four very close sets and pulled out the win, moving them to 7-10 overall and 4-4 in RMAC.
 
The Grizzlies opened the game strong, quickly taking the lead and going on a 6-3 run. The Thunderwolves bounced back and tied the score up at 7. The two teams rallied back and forth tying four more times in the set. The Thunderwolves pulled away late, getting the first set victory, 25-22.
 
CSU-Pueblo kept their momentum moving in to the second set, going on a quick 6-1 run. The Grizzlies made a shift and started their comeback. The Thunderwolves kept their lead for nearly the entire set. Adams State scored big points with Shannon Mulkey serving, which tied the set at 23. CSU-Pueblo responded with one point, then the Grizzlies took over. Adams State scored the final three points from two kills from Chasey Blach and Hannah Goddard and a big ace from Shaelyn Walton to win the set 26-24.
 
Adams State came in to set three with a lot of energy. The Grizzlies started with another big 7-1 run from Alexandra MacAskill and Mulkey serving. Adams State held their lead throughout the entire set, holding the Thunderwolves to at least a four-point lead. The Grizzlies came out on top 25-21.
 
The fourth set was much closer, with the Thunderwolves clawing their way back in to the game. The Grizzlies started off with the lead, and kept it for a majority of the set. The score was only tied once at 20, after CSU-Pueblo came back with a five-point scoring run. Adams State finished off the set scoring their final five points from big Grizzly kills. Adams State closed the match winning 25-21.
 
Hannah Goddard and Mulkey led the Grizzlies attack each with double digit kills, and racked up two blocks. Assisting both offensively and defensively was Bailey Schlosser, totaling 43 assists and 14 digs. The Grizzly's big blocker of the game was Blach, recording 6 tonight. Other notable players for the Grizzlies were Walton and MacAskill, each with two service aces. MacAskill also tied with Schlosser leading the team with 14 digs.  
 
Adams State closes their weekend on the road racking up two wins. Adams State will stay on the road this week, playing Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. this Tuesday, Oct. 15. The Grizzlies will then head back to Alamosa for two Homecoming games against Regis University and Colorado Christian.
