ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Women's Volleyball team battled it out with Colorado Christian tonight in five intense sets. The Grizzlies fall to 7-13 overall and 4-7 in RMAC competition.
Colorado Christian took control of the first set, taking an early 8-2 lead. The Cougars kept their lead throughout the set, with holding their largest lead at 9. Adams State came back and reduced their margin to 7, falling 25-18.
The Grizzlies came out fired up in set two. Adams State got an early lead the first few minutes of the game. The Cougars rallies back, tying it up at 10. From there, the two teams battled. With the score tied at 17, Adams State regained their lead and took it home, closing the set 25-20.
Tied 1-1 moving forward with the match, both teams had momentum under them to push through the third set. The Grizzlies kept it close the first few minutes of the set, tying the score four times. The Cougars pulled ahead and finished 25-18.
Switching sides once again, Adams State took an early 7-3 lead over Colorado Christian. As the Cougars were closing down the gap, the Grizzlies pulled away on a five-point swing lifting them to 14-8. The Grizzlies had two great service runs from
Mackenzie Swanson and
Hannah Goddard. The Grizzlies dominated the fourth set 25-14.
Both the Cougars and Grizzlies kept the fifth set close, tying the score 9 times throughout the set. Colorado Christian controlled the first few points and gained a 5-3 lead. With another 5-point strand, Adams State came back and took an 8-5 lead with Goddard behind the service line. The Cougars again bounced back regaining their lead. The Grizzlies tied the game up at 11, 12 and 14, to push the game to finish 16-14 Colorado Christian.
Goddard was the Grizzly's impact player with 11 kills, 4 aces, 3 blocks, 4 assists and 12 digs. Also on the leader boards were Riley Ogleive with 10 kills and
Shannon Mulkey with 7 kills and 5 blocks.
Bailey Schlosser lead the Grizzlies with 29 assists and 12 digs. Swanson was also another leader and impact player with 29 digs, 3 assists, and 2 aces.
The Grizzlies will have a long road trip next weekend in South Dakota. Adams State will take on Black Hills State Friday night, Oct. 25, and South Dakota School of Mines Saturday, Oct. 26.
