Grizzlies Play a Tough Match Against the Hardrockers

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Adams State Women's Volleyball team played a hard-fought match against the Hardrockers of South Dakota School of Mines. The Grizzlies fell 3-1, playing the fourth set to 31-33. Adams State moves to 7-15 overall and 4-9 in RMAC.
 
The Grizzlies fell in the first two sets of the night, 17-25 and 18-25. Adams State bounced in third set winning 25-21. The fourth set was a tough one for both teams with South Dakota School of Mines coming out on top 33-31.
 
The first set opened going back and forth with the first six points. Tied at three the Hardrockers went on an 8-0 run putting them up 11-3. South Dakota School of Mines kept their throughout the remainder of set winning 25-17.
 
The second set began just as the first, but stayed tight between the two teams for a majority of the set. The Grizzlies and Hardrockers battled tying the score 10 times within the beginning of the set. With the score tied 16, South Dakota School of Mines 9-2 run to close the set, 25-18.
 
South Dakota School of Mines opened the third set strong, starting with a 5-2 run. The Grizzlies rebounded back from big kills from Riely Oglevie and two service aces from Maya Waddington. The two teams battled, with Adams State coming back getting their largest lead of six. Adams State finished the set on top 25-21.
 
The Grizzlies opened up the fourth set, scoring the first four points. Adams State continued their streak, adding four more points to the Hardrockers two. The Grizzlies kept their lead throughout a majority of the set, at one point leading by 10. South Dakota School of Mines came all the way back to tie the set at 21. Battling through the Grizzlies and Hardrockers tied the score nine times, from 23 to 31. South Dakota School of Mines pulled through, to finish 33-31.
 
Leading the Grizzly attack was Oglevie, tallying 14 kills on the night, with Hannah Goddard behind her with 9 and Chasey Blach with 8. Maya Waddington had a big night with 4 aces and 40 assists. Mackenzie Swanson led the Grizzly defense with 17 digs. Goddard followed with 10 and Grecia Diaz Martinez with 9. Diaz also followed Ogleive, each racking up a handful of blocks.
 
The Grizzlies will be back out on the road again next week to take on the Mountaineers in Gunnison, Colo. and the Mavericks in Grand Junction, Colo.
