STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Adams State Women's Basketball took on Tarleton State in their first official game of the 2019-2020 season. Adams State fell 41-69 in Stephenville, Texas tonight. The Grizzlies put up a good fight in the first half, and turned it on second half.
Adams State started off the first quarter hitting a big three to get the Grizzlies on the board. As the both teams played some solid defense, the Grizzlies went on a scoring drought. Tarleton State went on a 15-2 scoring run to complete the first quarter.
The Grizzlies got a good start at the beginning of the second quarter with two good free throws from
Paiton Demps. Adams State started knocking at the Rider's lead from a layup from
Maddie Dorris and a jumper from Demps. With four minutes left in the half, Tarleton State ran away with the score. The Grizzlies finished the first half down, 45-11.
Adams State bounced back in the second half, outscoring the Riders in both the third and fourth quarters. With the help of
Donwanae Anthony,
Laura Gutierrez, and
Zakiya Beckles the Grizzlies scored 14 point to Tarleton State's 13.
The Grizzlies continued to add to their score finding success in the paint. The Grizzlies scored 8 of their 16 points in the fourth quarter from layups in the paint. Adams State closed the game falling 41-69 to Tarleton State.
Leading the Grizzlies in scoring were Beckles and Demps, each with 9. Anthony and Kassie Shell followed with 8 and 7 points.
Makaela Ewing led the Grizzlies grabbing 6 boards. Anthony and Demps followed, each with 4 rebounds. On the night, Adams State scored 31 points from their bench.
The Grizzlies will be back out on the court tomorrow night in Stephenville, Texas to on Cameron University. Tip-off will be at 1:30 tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 9.
