Box Score STEVENVILLE, Texas – Adams State Women's Basketball is taken down at neutral cite game by Cameron University. The Grizzlies fell to the Aggies 76-66 in Stephenville, Texas. Adams State is 0-2 in their very early season.
The Grizzlies opened the game with a big three from
Laura Gutierrez. The Aggies quickly responded with a three, one made free throw and a layup in the paint. The Grizzlies tied it up at 6, hitting another three from
Zakiya Beckles. The quarter continued with the Aggies regaining their lead. The quarter finished with the Aggies leading the Grizzlies 15-12.
Adams State closed the Cameron lead making a couple of lay up in the paint from Dowanae Anthony and
Ally McKenzie at the start of the second quarter. The Grizzlies cut the Aggie lead down to one, 18-17 two minutes in. Cameron continued to battle putting up 21 more points to the Grizzlies 8, finishing the half 39-25.
The Grizzlies came out stronger in the second half. Adams State started chipping away at the Aggie lead from the Free Throw line. At the opening of the third quarter, going 7 for 10 from the line. Adams State got the difference down to six points, but the Aggies turned it on in the last few minutes of the quarter. Cameron University extended their lead back to a comfortable 16 points from layups in the paint and shots from around the arc.
Entering in the fourth quarter, Adams State trailed 41-57. Leading the charge for the Grizzlies in the fourth was
Ally McKenzie scoring 14 points, 10 from the free throw line. The Grizzlies outscored the Aggies 25-19 in the quarter. The Grizzlies battled back, falling 76-66.
McKenzie led the Grizzlies on the night, scoring 19 points, going 13-16 from the free throw line. Following McKenzie was
Laura Gutierrez with 12 points, hitting 3 three-points. Beckles was also in double digits for the Grizzlies, scoring 11 points and grabbing 3 rebounds. Crashing the boards for Adams State was Makeala Ewing, leading the Grizzlies with 5 rebounds.
The Grizzlies will be back out on the court next weekend to take on Fort Hays State and University of Nebraska at Kearney. Adams State will travel to Hays, Kan. to challenge the Tigers and Lopers Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16.
