Yellowjackets Take Down Grizzlies

SPEARFISH, S.D. -- The Adams State Women's Basketball team fell to Black Hills State in Spearshish, SD.  The Grizzlies battled it out, falling 51-85. The Grizzlies now move to 1-2 in RMAC and 1-8 overall. 

 

The game opened going back and forth, being tied four times between the two teams. Zakiya Beckles was the first to add to the Grizzlies score, hitting a good three. Marshell Hollins, Makaela Ewing, and Ally McKenzie all added to the Grizzlies score. The Grizzlies finished the first quarter trailing 13-17. 

 

Kassie Schell added the Grizzlies first two points of the second quarter by hitting her two free throws. The Yellowjackets went on a run getting up by 11 points. Black Hills State finished the half with their largest lead by 18, 42-24. 

 

The Grizzlies came out strong in the second half with a jumper from Hollins and a three from Beckles. Black Hills State continued their run getting up by 28. The Grizzlies finished the third quarter trailing 64-36. 

 

Black Hills State continued their run, dominating the 4th quarter. The Yellowjackets finished the game leading the Grizzlies 81-50. 

 

Leaders for Adams State were Beckles and Laura Gutierrez. Beckles finished the night with 13 points. Gutierrez finished the night with 12. Hollins led the Grizzlies with 6 rebounds. Beckles, Schell, and Paiton Demps each followed with 4 rebounds. 

 

Adams State will be back on the court tomorrow night in Rapid City, S.D. at 4 p.m. at South Dakota School of Mines.
