ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Adams State Women's Volleyball team commits three new players to the 2020 roster. Head Coach, Lindy Mortensen is very excited about these top recruits to add depth to the Grizzly Roster.Â
Â
The first recruit on the list is Desirae Ortivez, from La Veta, Colorado. Ortives was a 4 year varsity starter at La Veta High School, and within her 4 years, she three earned 1st Team All-Conference honors from her sophomore to senior year. Ortives also received 1st Team All State both her Junior and Senior years. During her junior season, Ortives lead class 1A with total blocks. Her senior year she was selected to participate in the CCGS-All State Game as well the CHSCA All State Games. She helped her team secure 3 state berths in a row, in which in her Junior year the Redskins reached the 1A State finals. Coach Mortensen says, "Desi is a great person and student! She is quick and can jump. She is a smart player and despite her height can be a threat as a 6 rotation player." She will be a big asset to the Grizzlies in the upcoming year.Â

The next signee from Bossier City, Louisiana is Gabriela Patronis. She played varsity volleyball throughout her four years of High School. In Patronis' sophomore year, her team qualified for state and were District Champions, where she was awarded second team all-district outside hitter. In her junior year, her team won co-district championships, while being awarded first team all district outside hitter. Within Patronis' senior year, her volleyball team also qualified for state, with awards for district 1 all-district MVP. With memory of Patronis from the Adams State Volleyball summer camps, Coach Mortensen explained, "She is a great kid with a ton of energy. She was a high school outside hitter and quick back row player. She will be a versatile player for us."Â
Â
Adams State's third signee is Cindy Garcia. Garcia is a multiple letter winner at Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, Colorado and was ranked 87 in Colorado. Throughout her four years, she had 962 kills and 701 digs leading her team to Regionals in the 5A Jeffco Conference. Garcia was nominated as 2nd Team Conference for three years, her senior year she won 1st Team Conference as well as the Most Valuable Player award. Garcia has also been selected to play for the Chihuahua Mexico Volleyball team that competed in the National Olympics in Colima, Mexico in 2019. Being her first year there, she finished in 3rd place when competing the hardest teams of Mexico. She also received an invitation to an official tryout for the FMVB (Mexican Federation Volleyball) which represents The Mexican National Team U20. She also has dual citizenship (American and Mexican). With Colorado 5A playing experience, Coach Mortensen says, "Cindy is a strong left side hitter that hits a hard ball. She will bring in depth to our outside hitter position and will be a good candidate for playing time next year. She is a good person; will be a good fit for our team."
