Grizzlies Downed in Durango, 76-90

DURANGO, Colo. –  The Adams State Grizzlies Men's Basketball team suffered their third consecutive RMAC defeat Saturday night, falling to the Fort Lewis Skyhawks 76-90 on the road. The loss now drops the Grizzlies to 1-4 in conference play, and 3-8 overall.

Despite the loss, the Grizzlies frontcourt played quite well on the offensive end, and for the fourth straight game, Juwan Green put up 20 points or more, leading all scorers with 26. Green contributed four rebounds and an assist, as well as three steals and a block on the defensive end.

Joining Green and leading the scoring attack for the Grizzlies were key forwards Rickey Norris and Kaelin Crane who despite poor shooting nights, both finished with 15. The two combined for 10 rebounds, and three steals, and have been important pieces on both ends of the floor in 2019.

An area that has been particularly woeful for the Grizzlies in 2019 has been their three point shooting. Freshman Rylan O'brien and senior Logan Longo are considered to be the Grizzlies' two main marksmen, but have been in a slump the last couple of games. Playing back in his natural backcourt position tonight after seeing time as a post player early on was Nana Appiah, who was a bright spot in the shooting category for the Grizzlies, as he went two for three from deep finishing with six points off the bench. If the core shooters of O'brien, Longo, and now Appiah can begin to knock down shots from deep as the season moves into 2020, games such as the last three losses for the Grizzlies could easily turn into victories.

With the Grizzlies about to go on a quick holiday break, they hope that after the time off they can hit 2020 hard and begin to string together victories moving into the most important part of the season. No one can question the effort thus far, but the Grizzlies hope that they can clean things up, particularly on the offensive end moving forward. They will be back in action at home on January 3rd as they prepare to welcome Chadron State in the first game of the new year.
