ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Men's Basketball team fell to the Dixie State Trailblazers 96-63. The Grizzlies fall back to .500 in RMAC (9-9), and 9-14 overall. The win for the Trailblazers puts Dixie State at 14-8 overall, and 12-6 in RMAC.
The Grizzlies were led by
John Dewey, making 26 points on the night, three steals and three assists.
Rickey Norris led the team with seven rebounds, 15 points, and two blocks.
Shemar Johnson was right behind him with six boards, nine points and a steal. The Grizzlies had a good night from the line, shooting 76.5% (13-17), but struggled from field goal range, shooting 35.4%, and only 16.7% from behind the arc. Adams State attacked the basket scoring 34 points in the paint.
Dixie State laid up the first points of the game, with Norris quickly answering with a layup of his own. Both teams drained a couple of threes and ran with a couple of quick layups. With 15:05 remaining in the first half, the Grizzlies tied the game back at 10 from a good jumper from
RJ Brown.
From then on, the Trailblazers 20-5 run, leaving the Grizzlies to trail by 15 with 8:17 remaining. By the half, Adams State trailed Dixie State 45-29. The Grizzlies largest deficit was by 18 in the first half.
In the first four minutes of the second half, Dixie State had a 12-5 run, giving them a 23-point lead over the Grizzlies. As the half continued the Grizzlies shot 88.9% from the free throw line, draining 8-9. Both Dewey and
Szymon Walczak shot 100% from the line: Dewey 4-4 and Walczak 2-2.
The Trailblazers had their largest lead (33) in the final minutes of the game, where Dixie State came out on top 96-63.
The Grizzlies will be back in action tomorrow night Feb. 15 for their final home game of the season, against the Westminster Griffins. Coming in to the game the Griffins are now 9-13 overall, and 9-11 in RMAC.
Tip-off is set to start at 7:30. Prior to the start of the game, Adams State will honor their seniors for senior day.
