Grizzlies Shutout By Hawks on the Road

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Adams State Women's Lacrosse had a tough outing Monday afternoon on the road in a 27-0 loss against Rockhurst University. The loss puts the Grizzlies record at 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the RMAC.

The Hawks (6-5, 2-1 RMAC) got out to a fast start to help them secure the win at home. Also helping the home team was tough defense that held the Grizzlies offense to just five shots for the game.

Five goals in the first five minutes of action in the first half helped the Hawks get out in front early on the Grizzlies. The early tempo made a difference as the Hawks scored 12 goals to grab a 12-0 lead midway through the first half.

The pace of the game slowed down the remaining 15 minutes of the first half as the Grizzlies defense found a rhythm and held the Hawks to just five goals to close out the frame. In net, goalkeeper Louisa Sanchez notched six saves in the first half.

Helping the Hawks in the first frame was 30 shots on offense and going 4-4 on clears. On defense, they forced 11 turnovers and did not allow a clear by the Grizzlies in seven attempts.

Coming out of the break, the Hawks held a 17-0 lead. The offensive rhythm for the home team kept going as they added 10 more goals in the next 30 minutes of play to secure the 27-goal home win. The Hawks were efficient in their shots taking 17 in the second half.

The Grizzlies tallied four shots in the second half and were 2-5 in clear attempts. In net, Sanchez notched four more saves to finish 11 for the game. The Grizzlies also had eight draw controls for the game. Savannah Penland led the offense with four shots, while Madison Gerchow had one.

Three players finished with six points to lead Rockhurst. Audrey Ford had the most goals with five and tallied an assist to lead the way. Emelia Boillat and Hannah Miller each tallied six points on two goals scored and four assists, respectively. Molly Dunham earned the win in net for the Hawks after 19 minutes of action.

The Grizzlies will be back in action this Wednesday, March 20 at Lindenwood. Game time is set for 6 p.m. against the Lions.
