Grizzlies Fall to Fifth-Ranked Lions in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Adams State Women's Lacrosse suffered a tough setback on the road Wednesday night in a 22-0 loss to No. 5 Lindenwood. The loss puts the Grizzlies record at 0-5 overall, and 0-2 in the RMAC.
 
Helping the Lions (8-0, 3-0 RMAC) secure the win at home was a quick start to the first period as they scored six goals in the first five minutes of play. The Grizzlies defense looked to answer but they were unable to create any offense in that span.
 
The early surge from Lindenwood helped them take a 17-0 lead into halftime. Adams State looked to create offensive opportunities in the first half but never found the back of the net in the first 30 minutes of action.
 
The Lions defense was tough in the first half as they held the Grizzlies without a shot. Their offense totaled 22 shots in the first frame, with 21 coming on goals. Defensively the Grizzlies tallied four saves in net. The Grizzlies had just two more turnovers than the Lions at 4-2 in the first half.
 
The second frame saw the Grizzlies defense pick up as they held the Lions to just five goals in 30 minutes of play on 12 shot attempts. The Lions had answer as well on defense holding the Grizzlies to just one shot and winning the turnover battle, 9-11.
 
Savannah Penland had the only shot for the Grizzlies in their loss. Madison Gerchow won three draw controls on the night. Jazmine Palacios and Penland each had a caused turnover in the game to help the defense. In net, Louisa Sanchez racked up eight saves.
 
Hailey Gallant led the Lions offensive attacks with seven points. She tied the team lead in goals with three and had a game-high four assists in the win. Sarah Cromer added six points in the win with a trio goals and assists. Goalkeeper Aly Smith played all 60 minutes in the win to pick up the win for the Lions.
 
The Grizzlies will round out their three-game trip this Saturday with a RMAC matchup at Oklahoma Baptist. Game time is set for a 10 a.m. start against the Bison.
