Grizzlies Downed By ThunderWolves on the Road

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Adams State Women's Lacrosse team suffered a tough setback on the road Wednesday night in a 20-0 loss to CSU-Pueblo.

The Grizzlies (0-7, 0-4 RMAC) were unable to find the back of the goal in their shutout loss and managed just four shots for the game. The ThunderWolves (4-4, 2-1 RMAC) used a fast start to secure the win at win with 13 goals scored in the first frame.

Five goals in the first 10 minutes of play helped CSU-Pueblo get out early. The quick play from the home help them maintain a wire-to-wire lead the whole game.

CSU-Pueblo used the next 20 minutes to score eight more goals and take a 13-0 advantage into the locker room. The home team barely edged out Adams State in draw controls, 7-6, but won the turnover battle, 4-13.

The Grizzlies found a groove on defense to start the second half of play as they allowed just seven more goals. They were unable to transition that to offense though as they got off just one shot in the second frame.

The ThunderWolves maintained their composure on defense to limit the Grizzlies to just one shot in the second half and took 22 of their own to help score seven goals. Helping them find the back of the net was 7-1 edge on draw controls to create some offense.

Both Madison Gerchow and Savannah Penland finished with two shots, respectively, to lead the Grizzlies. Both of the players' shots came on goal. In net, Louisa Sanchez set a new career-high in saves with 18 for the game. She also led the team in groundballs with four.

Allison Wurscher led the ThunderWolves in points with seven on two goals and a game-high five assists. Olivia Tener and Taylor Christensen each scored a game-high three goals. Goalkeeper Ane Marie Horton tallied four saves in the shutout win.

The Grizzlies will return home now for their next three games. They get their homestand started Sunday, March 31 against the Westminster College Griffins. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at the ASU Lacrosse Field.
