DENVER, Colo. – The Adams State Women's Volleyball team played a closely matched game against the Roadrunners of MSU Denver. The Grizzlies took the Roadrunners to four sets, falling short 3-1. Adams State is now 0-2 in conference play and 4-7 overall.
MSU Denver came out strong in set 1, scoring the first 4 points. Adams State began a comeback, but were unable to catch MSU Denver. The Roadrunners finished the first set winning 25-17. Set two started in similar fashion, with the Roadrunners starting strong, and not giving up the lead for the set. MSU Denver came out on top 25-18.
Adams State bounced back in set three, keeping the Roadrunners on their toes. Though the Grizzlies did not tie the score until later in the set, Adams State kept MSU Denver within a one-to-two-point margin for the entire set. With the Roadrunners leading 22-19, the Grizzlies went on a 5-3 run, tying the set at 24. The two teams battled, tying the score again at 25 and 26. Adams State pushed though and pulled out the win 28-26.
The Grizzlies started out leading set four. The two teams played a very close game, tying the score twice throughout the set, once at 6 points and again at 16. Both teams rallied back and forth, keeping a two to three-point margin, the Roadrunners came out victorious 25-22, finishing the match 3-1.
In a couple of big sets for the Grizzlies,
Riley Oglevie led the team with 11 kills. Other big hitters for the Grizzlies were Grecia Diaz with 10 kills,
Hannah Goddard with 9, and
Amaya Young with 8. Out of the team, Diaz had the highest hitting percentage of the night, hitting .444.
Bailey Schlosser was also a big name for Adams State was
Bailey Schlosser, with 29 assists, 3 aces, and 14 digs. Goddard led the Grizzlies with 15 digs.
Adams State will come home to Alamosa after six games on the road. The Grizzlies will take on UC Colorado Springs Friday, Sept. 27 and Colorado School of Mines Saturday, Sept. 28.
