Grizzlies Fall to Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Adams State Women's Basketball team falls to UC-Colorado Springs, 69-54. The Grizzlies now move to 2-13 overall and 2-7 in RMAC. 
 
Adams State opened the first quarter scoring a quick jumper from Laura Gutierrez. Marshell Hollins then added a good layup to the Grizzlies total, giving the Grizzlies a one point advantage over the Mountain Lions. UC-Colorado Springs then turned it on, going on a 16-0 run to end the quarter leading the Grizzlies 19-4. 
 
Adams State came out in strong to begin the second quarter. The Grizzlies' Ally McKenzie opened the second quarter, going 2-2 from the line. Maddie Dorris also added to the Grizzlies score with a good layup. McKenzie concluded the quarter adding 5 more points and Gutierrez hitting a three. The Grizzlies trailed the Mountain Lions 36-16 ending the first half. 
 
The third quarter opened with Gutierrez hitting a good jumper. The Grizzlies added 19 points to their second half total in the third quarter. Paiton Demps and Zakiya Beckles each added four points on the board, along with Hollins hitting a big three. Adams State finished the third quarter down 55-35. 
 
The Grizzlies came out with fire in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mountain Lions 19-14. Gutierrez started the Grizzlies off in the fourth quarter hitting a three. Beckles added 8 points in the quarter, along with Kassie Schell, Demps and Hollins each adding to the Grizzlies total. The second half finished up with the Mountain Lions on top, 69-54. 
 
Beckles led the Grizzlies offensively tonight, scoring 12 points. Gutierrez was close behind, totalling 11 points on the night. McKenzie, Hollins and Demps were each large contributors on the attack with McKenzie talling 8 points and 4 offensive rebounds. Demps led the Grizzlies on the boards, grabbing 6 defensive rebounds and scored 7 points. Hollins scored 7 points and grabbed 4 defensive rebounds. Danielle Jimenez was also an influential part of the Grizzlies offense and defense tallying 5 points, 3 assists and 3 defensive rebounds. 
 
Adams State will be back on the road next weekend, as they travel to Grand Junction and Gunnison, Colorado. The Grizzlies with take on Colorado Mesa University Friday, Jan. 17 and Western Colorado Saturday, Jan. 18.
