Grizzlies Dominate Eagles at Home for Big Win, 73-58

ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Adams State Women's Basketball team dominated the Chadron State Eagles getting a big win at home. The Grizzlies get their second win at home, which moves Adams State to 2-4 in RMAC and 2-10 overall. 

 

Adams State opened the game with a quick couple of points from a layup from Kassie Schell. The Grizzlies continued to add points on the board with a couple of three's from Marshell Hollins and Laura Gutierrez. After the scoring going back and forth towards the end of the quarter, the Grizzlies and Eagles finished the first tied 13-13. 

 

Adams State started the second quarter hitting two threes from Gutierrez and Zakiya Beckles. The Grizzlies grasped the lead and extending their largest lead to 10. Beckles tacked on 11 of the Grizzlies 18 for the quarter. Adams State ended the first half leading Chadron State 31-23. 

 

The Grizzlies came out with heart in the second half, while continuing to push the pace. With layups from Ally McKenzie, Danielle Jimenez, and Beckles, Adams State extended their largest lead to 18 in the quarter. The Grizzlies finished the quarter leading the Eagles by 14, 49-35. 

 

Both Adams State and Chadron State gained momentum moving in to the fourth. The Grizzlies outscored the Eagles 24-23 in the quarter. Paiton Demps was a large contributor for Adams State going 6-6 from the free throw line. Beckles also added 8 more points to the Grizzlies final score, winning 73-58. 

 

Beckles led the Grizzlies with 23 points on the night, going 50 percent from the three point line. Gutierrez was also a leader on the scoreboard for Adams State, scoring 20 points on the night, with McKenzie up there scoring 10 points. Hollins lead the boards for the Grizzlies, grabbing 7 rebounds, 6 defensive and 1 offensive. Demps and Schell were following close behind, each grabbing 5 boards, each with 3 defensive and 2 offensive rebounds. Demps also Adams State with 5 assists on the night. 

 

The Grizzlies will be back out to defend their home court tomorrow night, Saturday, Jan. 4 at 5:30 p.m. to take on MSU-Denver.
