ALAMOSA, Colo.—The Adams State University Women's Basketball team continued the home portion of their season against the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers. The Grizzlies battled hard, but a huge 12-0 run in the fourth quarter by South Dakota Mines saw them defeat ASU, 70-57.
The Grizzles battled it out the first quarter as Elaina Watson scored a jump shot with 10 seconds left on the clock to close SDM's lead to 18-13.
The Grizzlies had an exciting first half as Kaitlyn Bell and Taylor Thompson led the Grizzles scoring six points each and South Dakota Mines led 38-30.
Laura Gutierrez got the Grizzlies started the second half with a two-point jump shot, followed by teammate Angeline Nageak scoring a reverse layup from a nice feed from Bell. The Hardrockers went on to close the third leading 50-45.
Nageak began the fourth quarter with a three-point shot, followed by McClure shooting a jump shot to tie the game 50-50. The Hardrockers fought back, opening a 12-point lead
The Grizzlies finished the game strong, though falling 70-57, improving from last season's game where the Grizzled fell to South Dakota Mines 74-46.
Kaela McClure led the Grizzles on the scoreboard with 10 points and five rebounds. Bell led the Grizzlies in rebounds with 12.
The Grizzlies will host the last game of 2020 against Colorado Mesa University on Friday, Dec.18, with the tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The next game the Grizzles will play isn't until 2021 where they travel to Denver to play two games.
