ST. GEORGE, Utah - Adams State Women's Basketball plays Dixie State in a tough match up. The Grizzlies battled it out, falling close 59-53. 
 
The Grizzlies had great first quarter, outscoring the Buffs 15-13. Adams State opened with quarter with a good three from 
Ally McKenzie. Paiton Demos and 
Marshell Hollins joined in each hitting good jumpers to give the Grizzlies the lead 7-5. With jumpers from 
Laura Gutierrez and 
Makaela Ewing, the Grizzlies ended the first quarter leading 15-13. 
 
The Buffs came back in the second quarter, scoring 18 points. Hollins posted a jumper to tie the game at 17 early in the quarter. Dixie State went on a 12-1 run, giving them the lead 29-18. Ewing and McKenzie each added a layup to end the first half trailing, 31-22.
 
Adams State opened the second half with a good layup from Demps, cutting the Buff lead to 7. 
Kassie Schell and 
Maddie Dorris each put up a layup. Ewing added four more points to finish the Grizzlies 12 points for the third quarter.
 
Trailing 48-34 entering the fourth, the Grizzlies battled back. Adams State outscored Dixie State 19-11. 
Zakiya Beckles and 
Danielle Jimenez started the Grizzlies run in the fourth with a solid layup and big three. Adams State went on a 10-4 run, cutting the Buffs lead to 4. Dixie State made 4-6 from the free throw line to close the game, taking down the Grizzlies 59-53.
 
Makaela Ewing played a great game, leading the Grizzlies 10 points and 8 defensive rebounds. Second in scoring was Hollins with 9 points, going 100% from the free throw line. Demps and McKenzie each put up 8 points, and Demps came down with 6 boards and 2 steals.
 
The Grizzlies will be in Salt Lake City, Utah to take on the Griffins of Westminster College Saturday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m.
