Grizzlies Battle it Out with the Rangers

DENVER, Colo. – Adams State Women's Basketball battled it out in Friday nights matchup with the Regis Rangers. Though the Grizzlies played tough, the Rangers ended up on top, 72-46.
 
The Grizzlies opened with a good start, getting a quick steal and a fastbreak layup by Zakiya Beckeles. Adams State maintained their momentum, with steal by Marshell Hollins that resulted in an offensive rebound by Makaela Ewing and a jumper by Beckles. The Rangers responded later in the quarter with a good layup and a three to gain the lead. Regis went on a 13-5 run to end the quarter leading 17-9.
 
Adams State opened the second quarter with a good free throw by Danielle Jimenez. Beckles tacked on a good jumper to cut the Ranger lead to 7. Kassie Schell and Jimenez each contributed to the Grizzlies' total with a couple of jumpers. The Grizzlies and Rangers continued to battle, completing the second quarter with a Ranger 11-5 run, ending the first half leading the Grizzlies 32-23. 
 
The Rangers had a strong third quarter, outscoring the Grizzlies 24-7. Ewing added the first Grizzly points on the quarter with a good jumper. Beckles added four to the Grizzlies total, hitting a good three and a free throw. Ally McKenzie also contributed with a made free throw to end the quarter trailing 56-30.
 
Schell and Hollins opened the fourth with a good three and solid jumper. Schell put up 5 more points from free throws in the quarter. Ewing also added four points in the quarter from two good free throws and a layup. The Grizzlies ended the game falling 72-46.
 
Leaders for the Grizzlies were Beckles with 16 points, 2 steals and 3 rebounds and Schell with 10 points, while going 5-6 from the line. Ewing was also a large contributor for the night, scoring 9 points and leading the Grizzlies with 6 rebounds, 2 offensive and 4 defensive.
 
The Grizzlies will be back out on the floor tomorrow night, Saturday Feb. 8 in Lakewood, Colorado to take on Colorado Christian.
