Grizzlies Drop Home Opener Against New England College

Alamosa, CO – The Adams State University Women's lacrosse team opened their 2020 Spring season this afternoon in what would end in a tough falling at home for the Grizzlies 19-1. Adams State hits the field again this weekend, visiting Johnson and Wales for a Mile-High matchup on Saturday, set to kick off at noon.

Sophomore, midfielder Delanie Ward would score the lone Adams State goal, shining a bit of light for the Grizzlies during the first half. On the other end, New England College would take early control of the matchup, putting up 18 points to Adams State's one before halftime.

How It Happened
The starting face-off would see #8 Delanie Ward go head to head with Giuliana Kevlin of New England College. The Pilgrims would gain control and put up two shots, one going wide right and the other tallied as Jordyn Adamek's first save in the net as a Grizzly. The first goal would come about slightly after the first minute of the matchup. Meghan Oliver would recover her own shot to send a second to the back of the net. Oliver would score again just a minute after, assisted by Madison LaCharite.

The lone Adams State goal would come about late in the first half, with just over two minutes left before a ten-minute intermission. NEC's Madison LaCharite would weave her way past Grizzly defenders to get a shot off that would be saved by Jordan Adameck to kick off a fast break for the Adams State offense. Sophomore Jaqueline Palacios came up with a ground ball pickup then found Delanie Ward at midfield. Ward would drive her way into Pilgrim territory to put up the Grizzlies' first and only goal.

After halftime, it would be a NEC dominant match as the Pilgrims would add six points to their lead by the end of the bout. NEC's Lauren Rich, Kaitlyn Kostigen, and Alexandria Safford each had a pair of goals in the second half

Jordyn Adamek would tally 12 total saves on her debut as a Grizzly.

Grizzlies are on the road this weekend, visiting Johnson & Wales for a non-conference matchup set to begin at 12 PM on Saturday.
