ALAMOSA, Colo.—In what was the Adams State Grizzlies first competition in the opening of their 2021 portion of their Indoor Track and Field season, both the men and women had outstanding performances in a dual meet against Trinidad State that was dubbed the Trinidad State Trojan Invitational.
In the long jump, Camwrin Harris was the top finisher with a jump marked at 6.77 meters (22 feet, 2.5 inches) followed by
Caelyn Gomez in women's jumping 4.50 meters (14 feet, 9 inches).
The Grizzlies continue to have stellar performances in the mid-distance and long-distance events, which range from the 600-meter dash to the 3,000-meter run.
Godfrey Chama led wire-to-wire in the men's 600 finishing with a time of 1:23.30. In the 800-meter run, Sam Kepford had an outstanding performance in a solo effort running 2:02.49. The Grizzlies secured the top three spots in the men's mile with Elijah De La Cerda leading with a time of 4:36.59, Elias Perez 4:39.55, and
Devin Paredes 4:44.30. In the 3,000-meter, Miguel Coca finished in first with a time of 9:00.06 while teammate
Andrew O'Keefe secured a win in the 1,000-meter with a final time of 2:30.00.
It was an intense race from start to finish in the women's mile as starting in the front of the pack was
Nicole Lawrence and midway into the race
Morgan Hykes took the lead and secured the win with a time of 5:31.94. In the women's 1,000-meter in a tough finish towards the end, and being her first time racing for the Grizzlies, Jaden Johnson ran a remarkable time 3:28.09.
On the sprints side there was a clean sweep in the men's 60-meter hurdles with Jordan Spencer in first place with a time of 8.45. The phenomenal
Jonah Vigil put on a strong performance, with a new personal best in the 60-meter with a time of 6.90, in the 200-meter Vigil took the win with a final time of 21.86.
In the women's 60-meter freshman Alese Sartain, in her first time showing as a Grizzly, took the win with a time of 8.08. Stepping down from her usual events in middle-distance,
Jessica Simon showed some speed in the women's 200-meter with a time of 26.79.
The Grizzlies are off to a great start to their 2021 Indoor Track and Field season after some top performances this weekend, which they will look forward to building off as they continue to work towards reaching the qualifying marks to compete in the NCAA Division II National Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The Grizzlies will be back at the starting line on Feb.6 hosting the 2021 ASU Open at the High Altitude Training Center. Fans are not allowed to attend the meet, however, streaming and live results will be available.
