ALAMOSA, Colo.—Exactly 441 days after closing out the 2019 season, the Adams State University Volleyball team opened a unique spring season on Thursday afternoon as they fell to the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks, in three sets, 25-14, 25-16 and 25-17.
The Grizzlies trailed early in the first set but a huge rally with
Mackenzie Swanson serving that included an ace and a kill by
Alexandra MacAskill tied the set at eight. Adams State then led 10-9 but the Skyhawks lifted up late.
After trailing the second set, Adams State battled and fought the entire third set, even leading on three occasions. However, fatigue hit the Grizzlies and they ran out of gas.
Adams State was led in kills by
Natalie Gallegos, who had six,
Chasey Blach, who had five and
Shannon Mulkey, who had four.
Adams State, who is now 0-1 on the season, will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 6 when they travel to Gunnison for a pod weekend doubleheader against MSU Denver and Western Colorado.
