VB | Grizzlies fall in two Saturday matches in Gunnison

GUNNISON, Colo.—The unique 2021 spring volleyball season continued for the Adams State University Grizzlies on Saturday as they traveled to Gunnison for the first of four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Pod Weekends. The Grizzlies opened the day by falling to No. 13 MSU Denver in three straight sets. In the seconds set

#13 MSU Denver 3, Adams State 0
In the Grizzlies' first match, Adams State fell in three straight sets to the No. 13 ranked team in the nation, MSU Denver. The Roadrunners won with set scores of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-19.

The Roadrunners, who's signature win thus far this season has been a convincing four-set decision over then-No. 19 Colorado School of Mines on Jan. 24, wasted little time in gaining the lead in all three sets with the Grizzlies.

Adams State was led in kills by Cindy Garcia, who had seven while Shannon Mulkey had three blocks and Bailey Schlosser had eight assists and eight blocks.

Western Colorado 3, Adams State 1
Adams State battled early but eventually fell in four sets to Western Colorado by scores of 21-25, 25-19, 23-25 and 23-25.

Adams State won the second set thanks in part to huge run late. Adams State was led by Shannon Mulkey, who had 14 kills, while Chasey Blach and Anna Huggins added 13. Mulkey continued to battle on defense as well as she posted nine blocks in the game and Faith Sanchez had 19 digs.

Up Next
The Grizzlies return to action on Sunday Feb. 21 when they travel to Denver and Regis to take on Westminster Griffens and Regis Rangers in RMAC Pod Action.
