SPEARFISH, S.D.—The Adams State University volleyball team that entered the weekend in ninth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) standings dropped a heartbreaker as they were defeated by the Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets in five sets inside the Donald E. Young Gymnasium on Friday night.

The Grizzlies, who are now 9-13 overall and 5-8 in the league, lost with set scores of23-25, 15-25, 25-19, 26-24, and 15-12. With the win, The Yellow Jackets improved to 3-7 when playing Adams State. The match was also the fifth five-set match for the Grizzlies this campaign.

The first set saw Adams State hit at a .161 clip with 11 kills, but the second set was even more stellar as they had 13 kills for a .310 attack percentage.

Alexandra MacAskill was the offensive firepower for Adams State as she has 18 of the team's 56 kills. The 17 kills for MacAskill set a new season-high for the Grizzlies as Shannon Mulkey has the previous high for the Grizzlies (W @ NMHU; 10/12/21). Anna Huggins and Mulkey each finished the game with double-digit kills with 11 and ten, respectively.

The fourth set saw a back-and-forth affair with the Grizzlies leading early. The Yellow Jackets rallied back and took the lead in the middle, but Adams State got back-to-back kills by MacAskill to tie the set at 21. Despite tying the game at 24, the Yellow Jackets closed out the set with two kills for the 26-24 win.

The fifth set saw Adams State tie the match at six before Black Hills jumped out to a 9-3 advantage. Adams State was just unable to come back in the game.

The Grizzlies will continue their road trip on Saturday when they play in Rapid City, S.D. The Grizzlies are set to play the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers with a first serve set for 5:00 p.m. The Grizzlies will return home on Tuesday, Nov. 2, when they host New Mexico Highlands.
