ALAMOSA, Colo.—A four-set victory inside Plachy Hall over the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks lifted the Grizzlies to a four-way tie for the eighth and final tournament spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). The Grizzlies won Friday's Parent's night affair with set scores of 25-14, 25-16, 21-25 and 25-18.
Fort Lewis falls to 6-15 overall and 6-11 in the RMAC while Adams State moves to 10-16, 6-11 RMAC. Both these teams are tied for the final playoff spot as are New Mexico Highlands and South Dakota Mines.
Adams State hit at a .242 clip with 52 kills on the day and just three aces, compared to the Skyhawks seven.
The Grizzlies led the first two sets from beginning to end and in the third set the trailed by as many as seven before rallying back and ultimately falling. In the final set, Adams State took the lead and a stretch of four straight points by
Anna Huggins, who paced the Grizzly attack with 11 kills, helped seal the win for the Grizzlies.
Adams State will take on Western Colorado University on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. The game is the regular-season finale for the Grizzlies and doubles as Senior Day. The Mountaineers, who fell to N.M.Highlands in four sets, are sitting in sixth place in the RMAC standings with a record of 13-12 overall and 8-9 in the RMAC.
