ALAMOSA, Colo.—The Adams State University Grizzly volleyball team won the first and fourth set but could not overcome small runs in the fifth set as they fell to the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls on Tuesday night inside Plachy Hall.
The Grizzlies fell by scores of 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 17-25 and 15-13.
Adams State opened the first set with 16 kills while only having 14 in both the second and third with just nine in the fourth and eight in the fifth. Adams State hit a low of .105 in the third as they had 10 errors in the third.
The Grizzlies had the help of four service errors in the fourth set to come back and force the fifth set.
In the fifth set the Grizzlies and Cowgirls battled back and forth but could not overcome a three-point advantage late.
Shannon Mulkey tied the Grizzlies attack record as she had 18 total kills and five blocks including two solo.
Adams State returns back to action on Friday when they travel to Denver to take on the Regis Rangers at 7:00 p.m.
