PUEBLO, Colo. – Adams State won its second straight game on Saturday, a 113-63 win over the Spurgeon College Knights in the second game of the Al Kaly Classic at Massari Arena at CSU Pueblo.

The Grizzlies improved to 2-2. Spurgeon College, which started its intercollegiate athletic program in 2019, slipped to 0-9.

Jude Warren led the Knights with 26 points, 19 of which came in the first half. Jamie Juncal added 13, including a trio of 3-pointers. Braden Chapman had nine.

Adams State's scoring and was quite balanced. Malik Meakes and Kolby Walker led the Grizzlies with 14 points. Rylan O'Brien had 13, Nykolas Lange and Malik Moore threw in 12, and Kaelin Crane added 11.

ASU led wire to wire. The biggest lead in the first half was 15 points. The Knights never led, though they cut the gap to seven points with less than five minutes to go. Warren scored five of those during that late spurt. Jaden and Braden Chapman had six. Chapman finished with nine.

Adams State put the game away midway through the second half with a 24-3 run over the span of 6 1/2 minutes. Meakes and Sterling Benjamin scored baskets to start the run. The Grizzlies' lead grew steadily to as much as 50 points.

ASU put together its strongest shooting performance of the young season against the Knights. The Grizzlies shot 60 percent from the floor and 43 percent from 3-point land. The Knights hovered the mid-30 percent range for much of the game. Spurgeon finished 24-for-64 from the floor, a 38 percent clip.

Tim Huston scored with three minutes left to put Adams State over the century mark for the first time in almost three full seasons. The win also marked the first time since Nov. 11, 2018, that Adams State scored at least as many as 113 points.
