LUBBOCK, Texas—The Adams State University women dominated the competition as they won the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championship by 67 points on Saturday morning. The Adams State men's squad finished in second place behind Colorado School of Mines by 12 points.
The women had all five of their scorers finish in the top ten as sophomore
Brianna Robles dominated and won her second straight race by finishing the 6,000-meter course in 20:24.30. She was 6.6 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, Layla Almasri of UCCS. The Grizzlies had a pack time of 38 seconds.
Adams State finished with a team score of 30 points while Colorado School of Mines, who had a 44-second pack time, finished in second with 97 points. UCCS rounded out the top three with a score of 116. These three schools automatically clinched a berth to the NCAA National Meet.
Junior Franziska Althaus was the second Grizzly across the finish line as she finished in fourth place in 20:37.40. Sophomore
Precious Robinson finished in seventh place with a time of 20:59.50 while sophomore
Nicole Lawrence finished in eighth place with a time of 21:00.00 and freshman
Morgan Hykes rounded out the scorers with a tenth-place finish in 21:02.70.
Freshman
Fiona Hawkins (21:10.30) finished in 14th place and
Ava O'Connor (21:36.30) finished in 28th place to act as displacers in the race.
On the men's side, Colorado School of Mines had a pack time of 1:29 as they won with a score of 42 points while Adams State posted a pack time of 60 seconds and finished with a team score of 54. Colorado Christian edged UCCS for the third and automatic qualifying berth with 91 points.
Freshman
Ahmed Sado was the top Grizzly finisher in the 10,000-meter course as he finished in 29:54.04. Junior
Isaiah Rodarte finished in seventh place with a time of 30:06.39 while freshman Mikah Paiz finished tenth with a time of 30:18.74.
Freshman
Andrew O'Keefe finished in 30:47.51 while
Davonte Jett-Reynolds finished in 30:54.40 to round out the Grizzly scorers in 16th and 17th places, respectively

Mitchell Dervin (30:57.43) finished in 18th place and freshman
James Dunne (31:19.37) finished in 31st place.
The 2021 NCAA Division II men's and women's Cross Country Championships will be held Saturday, Nov. 20 at The Abbey Course in Saint Leo, Florida. For the men's, it'll be the 61st champion crowned. For the women's, it'll be the 40th champion named. Although both ASU teams automatically qualify, the 16 at-large selections will be released on Monday, Nov. 8.
The Grizzly men will be looking for their ninth title since 2008 and their 14th overall. Adams State's women, who are still the reigning champions because the 2020 season was canceled because of COVID-19, are going for their 11th title since 2003 and 19th overall. Adams State has two long streaks where they won seven (2003-09) and eight (1992-99) in a row.
