ALAMOSA, Colo. — The Adams State Grizzlies won their season opener against New Mexico Highlands in front of a packed crowd on Friday night by a score of 80-43.
The Grizzlies started out hot immediately. The Grizzlies out scored the Cowboys 18-7 in the first quarter. They never took their foot off the gas as they ended the first half 32-17.
The Grizzlies went in for halftime and came out even hotter than the beginning of the game. The Grizzlies out scored the Cowboys 26-10. By the end of the game, the Grizzlies won by more than 30. The final score of the game was 80-43. Senior guard Stephanie Ruiz had 17 points, three rebounds, and was 5-8 from the three-point line. Junior transfer Nyeniea John had 13 points and was 5-6 at the free throw line. Following behind is freshman guard Demi Black had 11 points, three assists, and three rebounds.
Up next for the Grizzlies is University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Saturday, December 4th in Plachy Hall. This will be the last home game of 2021 as they are on the road against CSU Pueblo and South Dakota Mines.
