MBB | Balanced shooting lifts Grizzlies over Skyhawks

DURANGO, Colo. – A 19-4 run in the middle of the second half helped pace the Adams State University Grizzlies to their seventh win of the season on Friday inside Whalen Gymnasium on the campus of Fort Lewis College. The Grizzlies defeated the Skyhawks 74-69.

Adams State, who is now 7-7 on the season, was down 4-0 early but some stellar defense helped them retaliate as they held Fort Lewis scoreless for 2:59 and went on a 6-0 run to take a 6-4 lead. The Skyhawks jumped out to an 11-6 lead as Eric Jamerman hit a 3-pointer of his own. The Grizzlies were able to keep pace the rest of the first and trailed 32-29 at the halftime break.

The Skyhawks grew the lead after a quick three to open the half, but then ASU went on an 8-0 run and took a 39-35 lead with 15:42 remaining in regulation. The run continued to grow as the Grizzlies rattled off a 19-4 run to gain firm control.

Adams State got a big enough lead late in the game to counter an 17-4 run by the Skyhawks to close the game.

The Grizzlies are led in scoring by Destan Williams who scored 20 points. Frederick Jackson posted 16 points while Kalin Crane has 15 points. Rylan O'Brien finished the game with ten points.

The Grizzlies return to action on Saturday when they wrap up the road portion of the season at Western Colorado.
