GUNNISON, Colo.—Keeping pace with the balanced shooting from Friday night, the Adams State University men's basketball team defeated the Western Colorado Mountaineers 94-82 on Saturday inside Paul Wright Gymnasium.
Adams State saw senior
Frederick Jackson score 30 points and pull down nine rebounds while teammate Kalin Crane scored 21 points and
Destan Williams scored 20 points.
Rylan O'Brien scored 10 points to round out the ten players that scored in double digits for the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies came out on fire, with stellar passes.
Frederick Jackson and
Malik Moore each had easy buckets underneath to put the Grizzlies up 19-4 at the first media timeout. The timeout worked perfectly for the Mountaineers as they hit four deep 3-pointers to cut into the lead making the score 23-18 at the 12-minute mark.
Neither team took control of the game late, as every time the Grizzlies jumped out a 7-point lead the Mountaineers rallied back and even tied the game at 38 and 43, the score at the break.
In the second half, Western took their first lead of the game at 45-53 and even led 52-51 before the Grizzlies scored 11 straight to recapture the lead at 62-52.
But as is with all rivalry games the Mountaineers pulled back within three 67-64. Adams State then took advantage of being in the bonus situation as they connected on 22-of-28 from the charity stripe to seal the game late.
Adams State will now be back in action against the Mountaineers on Wednesday as they host their rivals in a make up game from earlier this season.
