TF | Grizzlies have successful show at Grizzly Open

ALAMOSA, Colo.—The Adams State Grizzlies Men and Women Track & Field team featured numerous top performances this weekend on their home turf in the High Altitude Training Center as they hosted the 2021 Grizzly Open on Saturday.
 
On the men's side the Grizzlies featured sensational performances in the men's distance events. Starting off the meet, Justin Andrade finished strong in the men's 5,000-meters placing second with a time of 15:41:24. Taking the line in the mile was Ahmed Sado, who had a strong finish and secured a win with a time of 4:18.04, followed by David Cardenas in second at 4:20.95, and Andrew O'Keefe in third at 4:21.15.
 
In the men's 800-meter there were some outstanding performances by freshmen Abdi Abade, who finished in second with a time of 1:57.50. Right behind him was teammate James Dunne with final time of 1:58.35. The Grizzlies secured the top three spots in the 3,000-meters with Davonte Jett-Reynolds in first with an 8:37.84, Ahmed Sado in second with a time of 8:59.41, and Devin Paredes with a final time of 9:08.42. In the men's Distance Medley Relay the Grizzlies took third place with a final time of 10:26.52.
 
On the sprints side, Jonah Vigil had an impressive performance in the 200-meters, setting a new personal record with a time of 21.60 second. Godfrey Chama took the top time in the men's 400-meters and secured the win with a time of 51.06.
 
In the throws and other field events Adams State had two Grizzlies finishing in the top three in the men's Long Jump with freshman Camwrin Harris, jumping 6.47 meters. In third was teammate David Varner with a jump of 6.22 meters. In the men's Weight Throw John Hochanadel, in his season-opener, placed third place with a 15.93-meter mark.
 
On the women's side the Adams State distance runners featured some high-quality performances on their home track.
 
In the women's mile run freshman Morgan Hykes and Amalia Dorin ran some impressive times, Hykes ran 5:16.51 followed by Dorin with a time of 5:20.42.
 
Stephine Cotter had a stunning performance in the women's 800-meters with a time of 2:16.04. Not far behind was teammate Nicole Lawrence with a time of 2:17.74. Brianna Robles debuted a season-opener in the women's 30000meters taking the win with a time of 10:22.57.
 
On the sprints side Jessica Simon ran an impressive 400-meter race with a final time of 58.84, while freshman Alese Sartain placed in the top five in the Women's 60 meters with a time of 8.09.
 
The Adams State Grizzlies are off to a great start this season and will be traveling to Topeka, Kansas next week on Feb. 13th to compete at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility, with races scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m.
