LAKEWOOD, Colo.—The Adams State University volleyball team continued Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action on Monday afternoon as they traveled to Colorado Christian to take on the Cougars and the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers. The Grizzlies dropped both games in four sets, although both teams battled to the end.
South Dakota Mines 3, Adams State 1
Despite battling and winning the third set, the Grizzlies fell to South Dakota Mines, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18 and 23-25.
In the first set, Adams State started with the lead, but a 3-0 run gave the Hardrockers a 6-4 lead. The Grizzlies and Hardrockers battled and tied the score at nine before a 4-1 run by South Dakota Mines made the score 13-10.
Adams State crept back into the set as they made the score 15-14 but again SDM tried to pull away and made the score 19-15. Behind strong serving of
Anna Huggins, Adams State tied the set at 21. The two teams then traded points until finally the Hardrockers converted on two kills for the 25-23 win.
Adams State hit a match-high 33 percent in the third set, a set they only had 11 kills in to get the win 25-18.
The fourth set saw the two teams tied at ten and before South Dakota Mines took a lead, leading by as many as four at 20-16, but Adams State kept their composure and tied the match up at 20. The Hardrockers opened a two-point advantage and the Grizzlies fended off match-point by one before falling, 25-23.
Colorado Christian 3, Adams State 1
Adams State on the first but close matches doomed them in the final three as they fall by set scores of25-13, 20-25, 20-25 and 25-27.
In the opening set, Adams State grabbed the momentum early with a 9-1 lead behind the strong serving of
Shannon Mulkey. Attack errors by the Grizzlies allowed CCU to close back in and pull within four, 11-7 By were then able to close out the set on a 14-6 run and get the set one win, 25-13.
The second set saw Colorado Christian jump out and take a lead forcing the Grizzlies to play catch up. After tying the set at 13, a timely timeout by CCU allowed them to skirt to an 11-5 run and lead 24-18. The Grizzlies mad it more interesting anc pulled within four before ultimately falling in the set, 25-20.
In the third set, the two teams went point-for-point through the first 13 points each team had before Colorado Christian was able to get another small lead and led 19-15. They would eventually hold off Adams State 25-20.
The fourth set saw another intense battle in which Adams State was on set point, 24-21 but the Cougars rallied for four straight points to take a 25-24 lead. The Grizzlies tied the match up but an attack error and a kill for the Cougars sealed the win.

Adams State will be back in action on Sunday for another pod weekend series at Colorado School of Mines in Golden. The Grizzlies, now 0-10 on the season, will play the host Orediggers at 11 a.m. and the Chadron State Eagles at 2 p.m.
