WSOC | Opening Week Altered, Season Opener Today

ALAMOSA, Colo.— The Adams State University Women's Soccer team is set to open the Spring 2021 season this week, but there have been several alterations to the opening week. After 500 days since their last game, the Grizzlies are set to take on Western Colorado on Tuesday, Fort Lewis on Saturday and CSU Pueblo on Sunday.

The Grizzlies were originally scheduled to open the season on Sunday, Mar. 14 against UCCS, however the snowstorm forced teams to postpone to Wednesday, they due to COVID-19 protocols, the game has been postponed yet again. A make-up date for the game has yet to be scheduled.

In lieu of that game, the Grizzlies have added a non-conference match up with Western Colorado in Gunnison for Tuesday. The Grizzlies will join the Mountaineers and play the first official game at the Katy O. Rady Field at 1 p.m. The Mountaineers are already 0-2 on the season as they fell to UCCS on Sunday, Mar. 7 by a score of 5-1. They then fell to Colorado Mesa 2-0 on Saturday, Mar. 13.

Adams State will also play Fort Lewis College in a non-conference game this week. The Grizzlies and Skyhawks were slated to play on Friday, however, both teams have agreed to move the game to Saturday, Mar. 20 at 1:00 p.m. The Skyhawks are 0-0-2 as they have tied with Colorado Mesa, 1-1, and Westminster, 1-1.

The Grizzlies will then open the conference portion of the schedule on Sunday, Mar. 21 at 1:30 p.m. when they travel to Pueblo to take on the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves. The ThunderWolves are 1-1 after defeating Colorado Mesa 1-nil and falling to UCCS 0-2.
